Hi, Roger. I've been reading your book - only on page 62, so far - and wanted to let you know that you hit upon something that I've felt, but not been able to vocalize. What bothers me about 'conservative/evangelical/fundamentalist/etc.' Christians today, is that they focus on the ABOUT of Jesus. I've been saying that they focus on the divinity of Jesus, and forget all about His humanity. Your phrasing of their focus being on the "about" resonated in my spirit. I am one who has been distancing myself from the church/religion, because it has felt like being abused, battered; because, my Truth, my beliefs don't match theirs - the loud fundamentalists of the so-called Christian right. (Did that make sense?)
Anyway, I want you to know that I am enjoying your book and think you brave to have included your personal experience of being embraced by God. I've had an experience along those lines, that I do not talk about anymore, because, when I did, I was chastised for it - made to feel I was nuts, told it was not of God. After reading about yours, I now think, "Who the hell were they to question my being a "real Christian"?!" Reading your story has sown a seed of courage in me - one that I am nurturing. Maybe I'll be able to tell mine in the near future.

"Kissing Fish" is simply an outstanding book! Very easy and compelling to read, yet undoubtedly scholarly--it introduces many concepts and ideas which are, sadly, heard far too infrequently. It's also been a special blessing to me as its brand of Jesuslike Christianity has not only affirmed and largely rekindled my faith, but also has been embraced by many of my friends who had gotten completely fed up with Christianity along the way.
Thanks, Roger. You've done a tremendous thing.
